Jams and dance, 1982

From the vendor pavilion before it was closed in and made off limits to jamming, and the 4H building when it was open to jamming and the Friday dance. This video was shot as "B-roll" (cutaways) for the 1982 ODPC documentary. As such, it has many jerky camera movements because it was not intended to be a continuous shot of a tune. I have left it mostly un-edited because many of the brief camera ...

Bowed Dulcimer at the "Overtones and Understrings" workshop, University of Chicago Folk Fest, 2014 This is a Ken Bloom instrument. It is his "pocket cello" model, with four sympathetic strings under the four regular strings. I have it tuned C G D A (like a cello) on the main strings and the sympathetics are tuned D E F# G. The tune is "Da Slockit Light" by Tom Anderson. Although it is usually p...

Lovely performance by a lovely young lady. Why is music like this only found in far away places nowadays and at summer festivals? We had it every week at the Adler.
What pleasant harmonizing! Oh, can't we bring these kinds of gatherings back, in our homes?
The first number is called "Dallas Rag". I learned a solo version from a set of 1970's era instruction tapes by Happy Traum, who is still around, including here on the tube. Happy is a great teacher and great guy.
Thanks so much for posting this great video of the great Ludwig!
Thank you Paul!!!
Outstanding !!!
JETHRO BURNS was a very skilled mandolin player as well as a guitarist - and very under rated - -He was a big fan of Django Reinhardt - -
Vous êtes des champions ! Formidable! Merci beaucoup pour votre belle performance . Bravo à vous deux ! 🎉❤🎉😂🎉❤🎉😂🎉❤🎉
Imagine my shock coming across this video and seeing myself in it from 1981😮
4:35 what's the name of this music please ??
Thanks Paul
I so remember this!
Thanks, Paul. The club brought our 3 founding members in for the fest. They had a ball! Today is March 2024 and Melba Cox Ridgeway is the only remaining founder. Too bad the sound is not clearer. Any chance of captioning?
Jay and his family lived in Jenison. He was a very cool guy with a lot of talent and diverse interests.
My Grandpa, John. It’s his birthday today. I miss him ❤… So comforting to hear his voice again
I saw so many friends and family in this video. Thank you for posting Mr. Golez
I knew Ludwig in the seventies when he played and sang at the northern chalet he was a friend of mine and I loved him and his music he was a wonderful man and sang my favorite song Lady marlana❤
@lindasorrentino7607 I saw Ludwig many times in the late 70's and the 80's, and with my dear mother who absolutely loved him. He was always very kind to all as he sang he would smile and connect with everyone. He's performing some of the zither "greatest hits" in this vignette, such as the Happy Wanderer and the famous Third Man Theme. The song you referred to is Lili Marlene (pronounced Lily Marlena). It was a popular song especially for American GI's in Europe during both wars.
Lili Marlene was written in 1915, but only published in 1939. It was well known in Europe during WWII. Marlene Dietrich recorded a version of it, but there are others. Just search on UA-cam!
This looks like a Bandonian to me.
Complex Set ...they make it look like Child's play
I believe he use to live in Jenison Mi. Back in the late 70s I needed some strings for my HD. I bought some from who i believe was the Round family. I believe he passed a few years ago.
Love, love, love that hammered dulciner! So pretty!
TWO (2) dulcimers!
is this the same guy from Who Killed Harry? by ira bryant
Does anyone know where to find their album/cassette or would be willing to sell their copy? I listened to it all growing up, and would love to own it again!
What’s the first song?
Fantastic!
Something really good
Great!!!
Hej, fiini liike!

Thank you, Paul!
What a treat to see this! How are you doing, Paul?
How I miss those days

I made that guitar
Bill, George, and Toby! Pure joy!
hilarious!! & a great picker!
Jethro was rearless to let the other great mandolin player with him. Fearless.
Is he a jazz player or Bluegrass player?
So good to hear Bob and know how much he was enjoying this
These are fabulous. Thank you for letting us see and hear them.
Wow, that is sure great
To bad today's musicians are so out of touch with the fans.
I miss my dad.
Amazing musician.
I've heard mandolin players play faster than Jethro Burns but never heard anyone better than him. He was a complete master of the instrument.
Beautiful. I am picking up Martha's harp case tomorrow. I am very sorry for your loss. I hope to play this well someday.
